Every five seconds in the US approximately 60,000 plastic bags are used. That’s almost 19 trillion bags every year. Only around 3% of those get recycled. I’ve been using grocery totes for a long time now because I shop very frequently in small amounts. Unfortunately the store bought bags I have are small, ugly, and uncomfortable to carry. Then I found ENVIROSAX. Great company, great brand, nice website and amazing product. All of the patterns are very unique and they release their bags in different style themed series of five. You can purchase a whole series or individual bags. Looks like they are limited runs only so good luck finding them at other stores. Lots of online availability though.

I’ve been poking around with Google Reader to quell the constant nagging of my friend who kept singing its praises in my ear. So, what exactly is Google Reader? It allows you to subscribe and view, online or off-line, rss and atom feeds for news stories and blogs. I started using It and found some great brand identity articles. One stood out amongst the masses and peaked my interest. It seems that in lieu of sales stagnation and decline PEPSI, yes i said pepsi, is spending 1.2 BILLION dollars over the next three years to completely re-brand it’s main beverages Pepsi, Mountain Dew (now apparently it’s only Mtn Dew) and Sierra Mist but looks like Gatorade may be dragged into the mess. This daunting task is being handled by the award winning and highly praised Arnell Group out of NYC which has done similar wonders with other major corp. thanks to the guys over and Brand New and UNDERCONSIDERATION for the scoop. So just to recap Google Reader is amazing, pepsi is keeping true to the “spend money to make money” theme to the tune of 1.2 BILLS, the economy is still quickly becoming a ride at six flags/ busch gardens and it’s getting cold outside… and dark as well.

For any of you who have an older Powerbook G4 or an Ibook G4 take heed to my advice… be careful with your power adapter. I have been out of commission with my laptop for a few days because while I was working I began to smell what seemed like something burning only to figure out that my power adapter was smoking and almost caught on fire. Had I been sleeping or not at home at the time, things could have been exponentially worse. So I go online to apple to find in the reviews of this power adapter say similar things… so just be careful leaving your laptop plugged in for fear of it incinerating your prize possessions.

Around the World

April 20, 2008

Hope everyone’s weekend was good…

I was stumbling around the CMYK design pool and came across a magazine from Tel Aviv, Israel.

A5 magazine seems to be aggressive in nature pushing it’s images no matter what the context into light.
Gain some insight… some world culture… reminds me of alphabet city late on a friday.

Starting from Scratch

April 14, 2008

Having graduated in May of last year I began my job search and started working part time for a great 2.0 media firm known as BlackOut Design. Great place, solid work.

Visit BlackOut Design.

After working for them for a couple of months I got a call back from a marketing firm who was in need of a designer. I began working for the marketing company part time as well. After a few months of part time at two places I was offered a full time position with the marketing company who now has since sold the publication I worked for and hence rendered me jobless. So I begin again. Fresh start, with a little more experience. I’ll keep you posted on where I’m at. I’ve begun updating my AIGA profile and redesigning my web site and portfolio before I start applying for jobs. Check back in later…
